About
Bahaa Ghoussainy is a photographic artist and architect based between Dubai and Beirut, Lebanon. Interested in the visual dynamics of design, architecture, and photography, he uses the photographic medium to communicate ideas and observations. He received his MA in Photography from UWE Bristol, before which he practiced architecture and photography in Lebanon.
Ghoussainy tends to incorporate digital technology and other alternative image-making methods within his practice; he believes there is an intrinsic relationship between imagery and architecture, which he communicates through his work, in terms of both the themes of his projects and the methods used in their production.
His recent work focuses on the evolution of the built environment and the effects of technology on the physical world. It explores the transformation of the spatial and material qualities of architecture and their translation into two-dimensional photographic works.
Ghoussainy’s work has been shown in several exhibitions across Europe and has received multiple awards, including the London International Creative Competition in 2019.
His commercial practice includes architectural and interior photography. His work has been featured on many international platforms and in magazines, including ArchDaily, Archinect, Architect Magazine, Architectural Digest, Designboom, Dezeen, Divisare, Domus, Mark Magazine, The Independent, and many others.
Ghoussainy is also the custodian of The Ghoussainy Archives, a three-generation family collection of more than 100,000 photographs from Mount Lebanon, spanning from 1940 to the present day. The collection comprises sheet film and 35mm negatives dating from 1940 through the late twentieth century, which Ghoussainy is currently preserving and digitizing with the aim of making the archive a publicly accessible cultural resource.
